A Cleansing Diet

Filed under: Weight Loss — admin at 1:35 pm on Friday, March 23, 2007

The cleansing diet, also referred to as a detox diet, was established more than a century ago by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg. Knowing how important colon health is to the rest of the body, a proper cleanse is an excellent way to help your colon. Over time, waste and toxins tend to build up in your body, especially with the chemicals and preservatives put in food today.

True, cleansing is a popular choice for weight loss, but it has many health benefits in addition to weight loss. After a cleanse, you will have more energy, feel fitter and more in shape even if your body’s total fat doesn’t decrease.

The Master Cleanse

Just one of many types of cleanses, The Master Cleanse is one of the most popular especially for Hollywood Celebrities. Some people also refer to it at the Lemonade Diet. So how does it work? There are certain ingredients you must consume each day and each has a beneficial element. You must fast for 2-7 days with limited nutrition provided by the following concoction.

Here is the recipe:

2 tablespoons Lemon Juice

2 tablespoons Maple Syrup (Grade B)

2 pinches Cayenne Pepper

12oz Purified Water

Why these ingredients you may ask? The lemon juice is used to produce more bile in the liver, trapping fat molecules and allowing them to be easily secreted while decreasing your appetite. The maple syrup contains many minerals and vitamins which you need during a short-term cleanse, including iron, calcium and vitamin C. Cayenne pepper is used to increase metabolism and aid in digestion as well as a good source of vitamins A, B, C, Calcium and Potassium. And lastly, the purified water of course works to cleanse your organs and speed up your metabolism.

You should drink this concoction several times each day, whenever you are thirsty or hungry. You are allowed to drink water, but you cannot eat or drink anything else for 2-7 days. Since there is no fiber, it is important to take some kind of herbal colon cleanser too like the OxyPowder cleansing system.

Five Great Atlanta Restaurants

The South is known for a few key traits, our gorgeous landscape, of course our congenial nature, and maybe most importantly, our food. Southern food has not stayed only in the South though, with Southern influence on food being seen in all cities and dishes.

The flip side to this phenomenon, outside influences have also permeated Southern food. This can clearly be seen in the food of Atlanta, Georgia, home to some of the best food of the South. Five restaurants that set the bar in Atlanta’s culinary scene are listed below.

Atlanta Fish Market (Shellfish) – Highlighted by a 30 foot copper fish, one might think the Atlanta Fish Market is compensating for something…it isn’t. Chef Robert Holley’s classical background married with Southern and French influences yields a truly unique dining experience. Voted “Best of Atlanta” by Atlanta Magazine in 2005, menu items such as Blackened Striped Bass and Grilled Shrimp and Portabello Brochette supply the necessary information as to why.

Bacchanalia (Romantic Evening) – Few restaurants in the South, upscale or not, are as notable as Bacchanalia. This celebrated culinary giant opened in 1993, but in 1999 moved to its current location in Midtown with husband and wife chef/owners Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison offering contemporary American cuisine. Unforgettable food and ambience offer the perfect evening for two.

Daddy D’Z (Bar-B-Cue) – With a host of awards under its belt, USA Today “The best place to eat”, “Number One” by the New York Times, Rated “Best Ribs” by Atlanta Magazine, there is no doubt the unimposing Daddy D’Z is a Southern Bar-B-Cue staple. Located in the heart of downtown, the only dilemma at this slice of hog heaven is what not to order…bring extra napkins.

Fusebox (Asian Cuisine) – A relatively new kid on the block, Fusebox opened in 1998 and has since carved out a niche in the Atlanta restaurant front with its Asian-Fusion style of fare. Straddling the line between Eastern and Western cuisine, Fusebox has redefined Atlanta’s idea of modern food with complex dishes served with expert detail and preparation with inspiration spawning from Asian, French, African, and even Southern influences.

Anthony’s Fine Dining (Fine Dining)
– An institution in Atlanta since 1967, Anthony’s has been a beacon for those seeking fine dining in Georgia. Located on a 3 acre plantation 15 minutes outside of downtown, this mansion houses 12 dining rooms and a host of menu items tto satisfy any discerning palette. The nightly menu includes appetizers such as Anthony’s Crab Cake, served with dry vermouth cream sauce, to the classic entrée Chateaubriand for Two.
